Welcome page
Cologne Bonn Airport endeavours to make the stay at Cologne Bonn Airport as pleasant as possible for travellers who are disabled or have restricted mobility. We therefore wish to provide as much information as possible to assist in the preparation and planning of their travels, so that they reach their destinations without unnecessary difficulties or stress.
We would, however, like to point out that early arrival at the Airport is necessary in order to facilitate optimal service on our part. Particularly at the security points waiting time can be quite long due to strict security controls. Our company has no influence on control procedures as they are carried out by the Federal Police.
When booking your trip you should, as a rule, state the type of disability you have and to what extent you will require assistance. The travel agency will inform your airline company. All necessary action can then be organised both at your departure as well as on arrival at your destination.
You can find the four international categories to describe the degree of handicap here:
WCHC - Wheel Chair Cabin Seat
This passenger requires a wheel chair at all times. He/she is unable to move in the cabin without assistance. The passenger has his/her own wheel chair.
WCHS - Wheel Chair Steps
This passenger is unable to climb steps but is able to walk short distances.
WCHR - Wheel Chair Ramp
This passenger does not require a wheel chair, as a rule, in order to cover longer distances. He/she is able to climb short stairways.
STCR - Stretcher
This passenger must be transported in a reclining position.
Should you require information additional to the following, e.g. details of the distances to be covered or the location of specific facilities at Cologne Bonn Airport, the staff at the Information desk and/or Terminal service will be happy to provide you with detailed information under: +49 2203 40 40 01 / 02
Blind passengers and passengers with impaired vision
Cologne Bonn Airport is planning to install, for example, entrances, staircases and lifts equipped with tactile systems.
Dogsw for the blind
In principle dogs for the blind are permitted in the terminals. However, to ensure safe transport during the flight most airline companies usually require the animals to be housed in transport boxes. Transport boxes in various sizes can be obtained from the Left Luggage Office (Gepäckaufbewahrung), Tel.: +49 2203 40 31 08 at Cologne Bonn Airport.
